"Limpiar" is a deeply personal solo dance piece exploring the intersection of labor and family. Rooted in the act of cleaning, this work is a homage to my mother, who became a housekeeper to provide a better life for her two daughters. Through movement, I honor the quiet strength, sacrifice, and dignity woven into every gesture of care and survival. Limpiar seeks to evoke the emotional weight and quiet resilience found in the everyday tasks that often go unnoticed yet hold entire families together. For those who come from immigrant households, I hope this piece serves as both a mirror and a reminder: of where we come from, of who carried us forward, and of the beauty and pain in that journey.

This solo explores the complex emotions that accompany success through the lens of a Black woman from a working-class background. It embodies the pride, joy, fear, anxiety, and reflection that arise on the journey, ultimately arriving at a sense of peace. At its core, the piece challenges the tendency to fall into imposter syndrome or forced humility, instead embracing unapologetic confidence and the affirmation that one is worthy of the success earned. The performance unfolds as a dynamic emotional rollercoaster, layered with shifting textures — playful, raw, tender, and powerful — reflecting the fullness of that lived experience.

Amándote y Soñandote
Choreagraphers: Carla León & David Olarte
Dancers: Nicole Spindler, Raquel Villacorta, Scarlett Uribe, Aria Robinson, Jared Moreno, Fernando Espinoza, Scott Beucler, Javier Baray
Music: Amándote y Soñandote by Willie Rosario

Amándote is a choreography that bridges Afro-Latin salsa from its social dance roots into staged performance. Rooted in New York–style salsa (on 2), Stilo Dance Company brings this piece to life by highlighting the social nuances of partnering and the expressive artistry of freestyle footwork (shines). Set to Willie Rosario’s salsa romántica classic Amándote y Soñándote, the work transforms the vibrancy of the social floor into a dynamic musical interpretation for performance.
