a Hip Hop Dance Festival

Friday March 23rd & Saturday March 24th, 2018

presented by Bootleg Theater

 

Our third exciting SUAD festival will feature 8-10 HIP HOP based choreographers based in the greater Los Angeles area.

 

Application Due Date:  January 24th, 2018

Festival participants announced February 4th, 2018

Eligibility/Requirements:

  • Applicants/Choreographers must be 18 years of age or older

  • Applicant must be a resident of Los Angeles county for at least one year

  • Applicants must have produced and presented their own choreography in the Los Angeles area and in a non-student context.

  • Selected choreographers must provide PR materials (jpegs etc) and all requested production elements to assist with promoting SUAD Festival; via email, postcards, Facebook, Instagram and any other forms of social media.

Project Description/Responsibility:

  • Presentation – Artists are expected to present a Hip Hop based piece 10 minutes or less for all 3 performances.

  • If proposing a premiere/new work that is not complete by submission deadline - the proposed piece must be FINISHED and shown live or video link to curators by March 10th, 2018 for feedback. Video samples are still required in your application of prior work.

  • Choreographers and performers must be available for all 3 performances; Friday March 23rd, 7:30pm, Saturday March 24th, 2pm & 7:30pm, one 1-2 hour tech time Wednesday March 21st or Thursday March 22nd, 2018 between the hours of 9am and 4pm AND a mandatory dress rehearsal Friday March 23nd, 2018 at 2pm.

Selected artists will receive the following:

  • Marketing/PR will be provided by the festival and Bootleg Theater with support from participating choreographers.

  • Tech Production support will be provided including a basic lighting design, overall technical direction, and light and sound operators. No large scenery can be accepted.

  • A professional video of your work

  • Feedback for new works/premieres.

  • $100 honorarium

Selection process:

Up to ten choreographers/choreographic collaborations will be selected for the SUAD Festival.

A panel will lead the selection process.  The panel will make decisions based on quality and innovation of the artist’s work and interest in the Festival. The intent of the panel will be to select applicants of high artistry and interest.

shut up & DANCE!  Application Agreements:

 

____If chosen, I will be in charge of being prompt for deadlines on information, music, choreography and any other elements of production.

 

____I agree that if chosen, the choreographer and company will promote the SUAD Festival via Instagram, Facebook, email, postcards, and any other forms of social media when links and materials are provided.

 

____I agree that if chosen and I’m proposing a new piece/premiere that I will submit a video link or show live to curator(s) the FINISHED piece by March 10, 2018 for feedback.

 

____The company performers and choreographers will be available for a 1-2 hr tech/spacing rehearsal either Wednesday March 21st or Thursday March 22nd between the hours of 9 am and 4 pm -  based on availability decided by SUAD producers; and dress rehearsal Friday March 23rd, at 2pm.

 

____Performances on Friday March 23rd, 7:30pm, Saturday March 24th, 2pm & 7:30pm at the Bootleg Theater.
